Buy Christmas Presents For Kids in 2011

Is it possible to find the perfect Christmas present for a kid in 2011 when compared to 20 years ago? Well, I'm writing this to let you know it can be done...but I'll tell you it won't look anywhere near the type of gift that would of knocked your socks off 20 years ago!

From techno gadgets to characters from apps to iTunes, a little research before buying for a kid in 2011 is a good idea.

Don't try to get the special kids in your life such boring gifts as clothes, mementos or personal care products and expect the same type of reaction that a popular toy or game will get!

I remember when I was a little girl, my grandma used to get me a new pyjama every year. Now I wish I still had that new pyjama for Christmas but at the time, I looked much more forward to my aunt's gift which was sure to be a popular new board game, toy or doll.

What kind of gift giver to you want to be to the kids in your life:

The fun exciting gift giver? or
The boring but practical gift giver?

If you are going for fun and excited shrieks of joy on Christmas day, this article will guide you towards what to buy for Christmas presents in 2011.

First of all, kid gifts are always geared to the age of the child. The same present that will thrill the 10 year old may choke the 2 year old so always be conscious of what age rate the present you choose is made for.

For boys presents and for girls presents are usually very different although some characters like Sponge Bob and Angry Birds are suited to both females and males.

Electronic toys, board games, toys and all the variations are great gifts especially if the special kid in your life is into a certain character like Buzz Lightyear, Barbie or the Disney Princesses. This kind of preference for a certain character is very age related so make sure to ask the parent what the child is into these days.

Music players such as mp3's and ultimately iPod Nanos are always a big hit for any musically inclined child. Does the special music lover in the family already have an iPod? If so, the perfect gift for them would be a gift card to purchase iTunes.

If you really want to strike it big in terms of Christmas giving satisfaction, track down the hottest presents of the year and offer it to your niece, nephew, godchild or grandchild. Buy according to the modern times for best results.

5 Best Free Games for iPad: Confessions of a Gameaholic

An iPad has become a wonderful gaming platform leaving other consoles merely toys. To tell you the truth, I have become a gamaholic with the release of Apple's tablet computer. This gadget has even changed my daily routine.

I used to get up early in the morning, check my email and spend half an hour reading news, hot stories and preparing for my classes. And now I start my morning searching for the new games for iPad. I launch the App Store and run through game reviews to download another free app or game and test it before sharing it with my friends.

This device has become an iconic for many people. It quickly replaces popular gaming consoles since more and more developers create iOS games that are not only cool and fun to play but also free to get.

Here are the best free games for iPad that I cannot stop playing. They are very addictive.

1. PIY 4 HD is a great free game for music fans. Its full name is PlayItYourself 4 HD. This game will not teach you how to play the piano, but you will feel what it is like to be a musician, and maybe you'll even consider learning to play the piano one day in the future.

You score by following the notes highlighted on your screen. The music is amazing, no matter how quick or slow you are. So your children should enjoy it as well as you.

You can play only one melody in the beginning of this game. It is Beethoven's Fur Elise. But you can unlock other tunes by scoring and spending your points on the new unlocks.

2. Angry Birds Free HD Rio: If you have ever played Angry Birds you should know how addictive this game is. It's one of the best iOS games ever developed.

The Rio version of Angry Birds includes 12 cool levels. The graphics are amazing. You get to "send your birds" flying in Rio de Janeiro and fight against monkeys. Your main goal is, surely, to free your friends.

If you ever get tired of fun levels, just play beach ball game instead.

3. Words With Friends HD Free: It is one of my favorite free games ever. It is the best version of a popular childhood game.

You can play it with millions of iPad users from all over the world. Build new words, score and challenge your family to bit you in this fun game of word building.

You can enjoy 20 games at one time and invite your Facebook friends to compete with you.

4. AD Jewels ShooterHD: This game is perfect for the fans of Zuma. Do you remember that bubble shooter? Well, AD Jewels ShooterHD is a great "zuma" game for the iPad.

You can choose one of the four modes available. It is easy to play. Simply connect at least three diamonds of one color and they will be destroyed. Your game will come to an end if the stack reaches the bottom.

Place your finger where you want the diamond to shoot, and then release it.

5. GT Racing: Motor Academy Free+ HD: It is difficult to find the best racing games among all the free games available. They are all cool and fun to play, but still I have found a couple of apps that I can't stop playing.

GT Racing is one of them. It is free and it lets you challenge your driving skills. You need to win races in order to unlock new cars and racing events. There is an option to buy multipliers and packs from your game for users who are impatient to unlock vehicles and events.

Gaming Your Brand

Businesses of today utilize a lot of different strategies in promoting and marketing their brand. One strategy isn't enough because it only addresses a particular set of consumers - if you really want to market your brand properly, then you need to use every method at your disposal to ensure that you're able to target a wide audience.

Brands are now tapping into gaming as a way to reach a wider array of consumers. The gaming industry continues to gain in momentum among people, what with the popularity of smart phones and tablet PCs, not to mention social networking sites such as Facebook that offer games for people's amusement.

So how exactly should brands use gaming as a way to promote their brand? Here are some tips to help you incorporate gaming into your branding campaign.

1. Gaming can give more exposure to your brand

Want to spread the word about your brand? Make an application or game around it that's interesting and fun enough, and you'll soon have a slew of people who know about your brand.

What makes a game so memorable is how interactive it is - it's a great way to expose people to your brand for hours and hours of play. And people enjoy recommending and sharing games with their friends and colleagues, which means more exposure for your brand. Games are some of the most sharable content because people enjoy playing with others and sharing their experiences of the game.

2. Gaming is a great way to engage consumers

Most brands know the importance of engaging consumers, and gaming is a way to do that. To put it simply, most people have fun when playing games. No matter what age you are, there's still that little kid in you that enjoys playing Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies, and even Farmville occasionally. Or if you're the intellectual type, you may like Words with Friends and Hanging with Friends a lot more.

Games are a way to create brand awareness as well as brand addiction. Think of Angry Birds and how it's become a consumer brand. In addition to the games, you now have Angry Birds toys, Angry Birds T-shirts, Angry Birds iPad and laptop cases, and so much more. This is the phenomenon of the gaming industry - how it can cause people to become really addicted to the game that it turns into a million-dollar enterprise.

3. Gaming is a way to create a community around your brand

Games that really engage consumers result in people talking, building relationships, and even creating a community around the game or the brand. This is why social games are so popular among people - it creates conversation between players since it often depicts real world scenarios.

Brands can use social games since it helps users keep coming back for more. Most of these games only allow a limited time of playing at a time, so the user has to come back after a couple of hours to play again. This makes it easy for brands to continuously interact with their consumers.

4. Games aren't typically viewed as advertisements

Perhaps the best part about games is the fact that most people don't really consider them as advertisements or marketing tools - people are just interested in playing, but subtly, the games are actually marketing a brand or product to them without their being aware of it.

It's all about ensuring the right blend of branding and gaming so that in addition to loving the game, users also find themselves engaging and loving your brand.

5. Gaming continuously evolves

Another excellent thing about gaming is the fact that it continuously evolves, so people don't get bored. Of course, as a brand, you shouldn't put together a game just for the sake of doing it - you need to take the time to think creatively and put out something that is memorable and is going to stick in a lot of people's minds.

Ultimately, no matter what tactic you use, branding is all about engaging your consumers and building relationships with them. Gaming is definitely one strategy you could utilize in your branding strategy, but it shouldn't be the only thing you use. And you need to make sure that it fits in well with your overall branding campaign so that it doesn't seem as if you just put up a game since everyone else is doing it.

When used properly, gaming can definitely help you gain more exposure for your brand, build better brand awareness, and even help you create a community around your brand.

Christmas Gift Ideas That Will Make Them Say, "You Rock!"

As another Christmas rolls around, have you decided that this year you're going to be a bit more ambitious with your Christmas gift ideas? Sure, socks and underwear are needed by everyone, but do they really have the 'wow-factor' when your 8 year-old son opens them on Christmas morning? The chances are they don't, so, with that in mind, let's have a look at a few Christmas gifts that you could be buying that will have them saying "You Rock!"

For this article we'll stick with things that you can get for younger kids, after all, your partner and teens should already think that you rock, right?

Christmas Gift Ideas for the Younger Children

Life would be so much easier if you could just give them some vouchers, and let them choose their own Christmas gifts. Practical as that may sound, however, it really just doesn't seem to have those little faces lighting up on Christmas morning like a 'Barbie Pink 3-Story Dream Townhouse', or an 'Angry Birds: Knock on Wood Game' would do.

So let's have a look at 3 of the hottest Christmas gifts for boys and girls in the lead up to Christmas 2011; then, maybe, you could get them a voucher so that they could buy them on Amazon.com? It's always a thought.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Younger Boys:

1. Black and Decker Junior Power Tool Workshop

This is a fantastic idea for boys over the age of 3. You get realistic sounds, lights, actions, and, over 50 accessories. This is such a cool way to get into practice for all of those little things that they'll have to do around their own home - wouldn't it have been nice if some older members of the family had got this excited about DIY this early in their lives?

2. Lego

Lego is a product that hasn't really been off the shelves since it was invented in the late 1940's, but the number of products increases year by year. It's always a great thing to receive, and the hot Lego products going into Christmas 2011 include: LEGO Kingdoms Prison Tower Rescue, LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle, and of course, there's a huge range of Lego Star Wars products - ever wondered what would happen if Darth Vader attacked Hogwarts?

3. Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS

What more needs to be said? Who wouldn't want the 'Fully-Automatic Blasting Power' that you get when you lock and load one of these? Of course, you may have to keep it out of the reach of the under 3's, and the over 50's!

Christmas Gift Ideas for Younger Girls:

1. Barbie

I know, it seems like the obvious thing to start a list of Christmas gift Ideas for younger girls, but there's a reason... Barbara 'Barbie' Millicent Roberts has been with us since 1959, and she's showing no signs of aging yet.

While you could start out with one or two of the dolls - like the Barbie Video Girl Doll, which, by the way, is also a real working video camera - you have so many accessories to choose from, too. Would Barbie like to stay in the Barbie Glam Vacation House, or will she take the Barbie Glam Convertible to the Barbie Pink 3-Story Dream Townhouse? It must be great to be so rich and popular, right?

2. Creative Toys

Toys are a great thought for Christmas gift ideas, but sometimes you might prefer to buy something that's a bit more educational, the Enchanted Fairy Garden Kit by Faber-Castell gives you the best of both worlds; as well as the fairy one, too.

With this kit, your young lady (and some young gentlemen) will be able to create their very own enchanted fairy world in the flower shaped dish, and then populate it with a number of real and artificial things, that they might find at the bottom of even the most luxurious of enchanted gardens.

3. Soft Toys

As with a number of items on this list, these never really go out of fashion, and can be bought just about any year; but, if you're looking for Christmas gift ideas in the soft toy line, that are in vogue in 2011, then here are a couple for you to consider.

Mary Meyer Plush Big Sweet Pea Bunny 17", soft bunnies are always good, but what about a 17" tall pink bunny? If a bunny isn't the animal of choice, how about getting the Jilly Pink and White Zhu Zhu Pets Hamster Kids Toy? Zhu Zhu Pets are just as popular now as they have been over the last few years, so don't fall in to the trap of thinking that you have to get some trendier Christmas gifts.

So, do you have a better idea for Christmas gift ideas for the younger children in your life, now? If not then there are still, DVD's, music, board games etc, etc, there really is no reason to be out of Christmas gift ideas this year; just keep away from socks if you want to add that wow-factor back in to their Christmas morning. Here are some more Christmas gift ideas that just might improve your 'rock star' status:

Best Android Apps for Families

The Good, The Bad and The Irrelevant

We see the good and the bad, and everything in-between. Sorting through the Android Marketplace of over 300,000 apps is no small task, but we've been steadily working towards finding the best stuff for your family, and giving you a breakdown of the cool and the drool (our version of the good & bad) on all types of apps, not just games.

All of the apps that we review have to pass a precursory inspection before we will even consider them for our review process. This means that we only review apps that have some relevance to families, aren't malicious, and generally meet a certain level of quality.

The Best of the Best

But even though all of the apps that we review meet these initial criteria, there is still a huge difference between an acceptable app and a truly enjoyable app that surpasses our expectations.

It's always a treat to stumble upon an app that is really well made, entertaining, engaging and has some sort of depth to the interaction that it provides. You can always tell when there has been an extra bit of effort and love built into an app, and (coming from people who use and review a bunch of different apps) it's definitely appreciated.

These are the apps that stand apart from the others, they are some of Famigo's favorites, and we think that your family will absolutely love them too:

Top Paid Apps

Cut the Rope - $0.99

A beautiful game with adorable characters and a gorgeous user interface. It plays off of really interesting and intricate physics puzzles. If Pixar had made a blockbuster app, this would be it. Although this app has been popular on Apple's app store for a while, it is new to the Android Market.

Drawing Pad - $1.99

There are a lot of drawing apps out there, and a bunch that are supposedly designed especially for kids. From what we've seen, they're mainly lackluster. (Meaning they look like bad rip-offs of Paint, with design queues taken from the 1980s, not that we don't love the 80's, but these apps aren't even trying to be retro!) This drawing app, however, is fantastic. It's clean, easy to use, and has a ton of choices for different colors and materials

X Construction - $1.43

We like this one so much that we keep on playing it, practically everyday, even though we've already reviewed it. It's challenging, sometimes frustratingly so, but that's what keeps us coming back to it over and over again. There's something about being responsible for a train completing its journey that's oddly satisfying.

Nano Panda - $0.97

There's one word that describes this app: adorable. It's another physics-based puzzle game, but it manages to be delightful through its game play, user interface, and excessive use of pandas. In our eyes there's no such thing as too many pandas, so this app gets the Famigo seal of approval.

Top Free Apps

Peggle

This is a brightly colored, easy to play app that is fun for everyone. It has the capability of being multi-user, which we love. (It's always more fun to play together!) There's an especially nice touch built into the game, win a level and you'll see what we're talking about.

Angry Birds

This one really goes without saying. When an app has its own line of kid's toys and a movie in the works, you

know there's got to be something to it. What is that something? Probably the great graphics, cute characters, challenging game play and wide audience appeal. We'd happily pay for a version without ads, but that isn't an option yet.

Shift Lite Puzzle Game

A really challenging puzzle game with a deceptively simple black and white look. Each level provides new (and progressively frustrating) challenges that can all be solved with four simple actions, figuring out which of the four and in what combination is the problem.
